Discover seven ‘Fair New Ideas’ about working with care in the arts

With A Fair New Idea, Flanders Arts Institute is looking for ideas that contribute to a strong, fair and sustainable arts field. The first call focused on ideas for open, inclusive, caring and solidarity-based ways of working in the arts. The jury selected the first seven ideas from some thirty submissions.

With this first call we looked for ways to create more time and space for making, experimenting and meeting audiences. Or for answers to the question: how can we work transparently, fairly, in solidarity and with care for one another in the arts?

In total, we received 30 ideas that are very different from each other and focus on different aspects of caring. We would like to thank everyone who submitted an idea!

Rethinking artistic work from the perspective of inclusiveness, using citizen consultation methods, questioning and updating the notion of ‘quality’, letting artists learn from each other, exploring collective income models and an additional art channel: the jury chose these seven ideas from all the submissions.

  • Le Park
  • Common Income
  • To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete
  • The Ambulants: art for art’s sake
  • Artist organizers and ‘artistic quality
  • SHADOW tv
  • Working title! CC:Care Center

The jury consisted of: Helga Baert of wpZimmer, Dries Douibi of KunstenfestivaldesArts, Philippine Hoegen of SOTA and SOS Relief, Tine Holvoet of Verso, Maryam Kamal Hedayat of Argos and Kobe Van Cauwenberghe of ZWERM/COHORT.

And now?

The submitters of these seven ideas are invited to further develop their plan. Kunstenpunt offers support to work out a step-by-step plan and a budget.

In the second and final round the jury will select one idea from these proposals for further development. The selected idea will receive a budget of €12,000. At the end of February you will read on kunsten.be which idea made it!

Second call: working internationally
