How to address structural discrimination in the arts?

Take affirmative action. You want to specifically lower barriers to entry, for example for “young” creators, “mid career” art workers, people of color or from non-dominant cultural backgrounds, for women or for those who do not identify as men, for people with physical, mental or cognitive disabilities.

According to some, this is tantamount to discrimination. For others, only the criterion of “quality” or “talent” may be paramount. Some fear polarization by pitting groups of people against each other. Still others wonder “where it will all end.”
