Balkan Express Caravan Meeting: focus on artistic collaboration with (Eastern) Europe

Kunstenpunt/Flanders Arts Institute focuses on different regions to seize opportunities for further development in artistic collaboration for artists and art organisations. Europe – and more specifically the Balkans & countries on the outskirts of the EU – are important focus regions.

Balkan Express: working meetings in Ljubljana

These days  – together with the Balkan Express Network & Bunker Ljubljana – we are organising a four-day meeting around artistic production and working conditions in contemporary civil society in a wider Europe – under the moniker of Balkan Express Caravan Meeting.

Artists, producers, curators/programmers and art theorists from Belgium, Slovenia, Kosovo, Serbia, Georgia, Czech Republic, Croatia, Romania, Poland and other European countries exchange insights and explore opportunities to collaborate on a sustainable level, starting from shared political and economic challenges.

Online special ‘Another Europe, More Europe’

Artists and organisations from Flanders and Brussels – and from Western/Northern Europe – do not usually work so frequently with players from the Balkans or countries bordering the Union. Our market logic is pushing us towards other regions and continents. And yet, in the changing zeitgeist, it is more than ever imperative to seek to connect with the South and Eastern Europe. Not only to better understand the turbulent social, cultural and political developments within Europe, but also because in the very active socially involved artistic landscape in these regions, over the past 15 years, interesting and innovative answers are being developed in response to questions with which artists and organisations in Western/Northern Europe are increasingly struggling.Kunstenpunt/Flanders Arts Institute launches an online special on the subject with contributions by international art professionals and artists on the subject of artistic collaboration and reports of previous meetings and round tables.
