Discover the new generation of Dutch-speaking playwrights

From February 13 to 17 2024, Leuven welcomes you for a new edition of Shakespeare is dead, the very first international festival for contemporary playwriting in the Dutch-speaking region. Shakespeare is dead puts the contemporary playwright in the spotlight. The focus is on a selection of twenty new theatre texts: ten international texts and ten Dutch-language texts from Flanders and the Netherlands. Excerpts from these texts are presented to an audience of professionals and enthusiasts during staged readings in our Reading Room, where the authors are also guests for an interview.

Language

For debates and talks, the working language is English. The staged readings of the international selection in the Reading Room are in Dutch + surtitled in English. Some texts are also available in French and German translation.
