Organize a meeting for international artists and/or art professionals

Call
Kunstenpunt

Flanders Arts Institute regularly organizes visitors’ programs for a group of international guests: we invite foreign artists, programmers, curators, policy staff … to visit one or more artists, organizations or events in Flanders and/or Brussels. The goal of such a visitors’ program is in-depth knowledge sharing and building lasting international relationships.

We would also like to give you the opportunity to set up such a visitors’ program yourself. That is why Flanders Arts Institute is offering a budget and support to put together an international visitors’ program, or to give the existing format a new or different interpretation.

Why this open call?

We want to create opportunities for parts of the sector that don’t typically get them. We also hope to open up the possibilities of what a visitors’ program can be and further expand the international network of the arts in Flanders and Brussels.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for artists, art workers, organizations or collectives who are active in Flanders and/or Brussels and who want to organize an international visitors’ program. Exchange and peer-to-peer learning are should be key elements. We prefer a program that is accessible to a broad group of professionals, and that offers added value to both participants and partners.

Who can submit a proposal?

The call is open to:

  • subsidized or unsubsidized individual artists, collectives, art professionals (dramaturgs, programmers, technical-artistic collaborators, curators…) and organizations
  • active in the performing arts, visual arts or classical music
  • with a clear link to the arts in Flanders and Brussels
  • regardless of experience, age, nationality …

Proposals in which different individuals or organizations work together are encouraged.

What do we expect from you?

  • You take care of the complete content of the visitors’ program: developing the theme, inviting international guests …
  • You follow up the visitors’ program production-wise: contact with partners, booking travel and accommodation for foreign guests, catering …
  • You draw up a financial plan and manage the budget
  • In the implementation of the program, you pay attention to values currently prevalent in the arts sector and society such as sustainability, inclusiveness, fair practice and accessibility

When?

The program must take place between July – December 2023, on one or more consecutive days.

What do we offer?

  • (Co-)funding of the visitors’ program: Flanders Arts Institute has a budget of €6,000 and retains the freedom to distribute this among one or more submissions (in consultation with the project submitters). As a submitter, you are free to seek additional funding from other partners.
  • We support you with production and content follow-up at three fixed moments during the preparation.
  • We provide contacts, opportunities and resources from the Flanders Arts Institute’s network.
  • Visibility and promotion from Flanders Arts Institute (online/social media).
  • Infrastructure on a temporary basis. During the process you can, if necessary, use a coworking space in the Flanders Arts Institute office (incl. meeting room, printer, coffee …).
