PULP de LUXE

Sign up for Pulp deLuxe’s new Open Call and maybe you too can be showcasing your one page comic at GRID!

What?

GRID is our first one page comic expo. With this we offer a platform for creators to show off their graphic story or comic to the general public. This expo will take place from June 21 to 30, 2024 at Edward in Ghent. The name GRID refers to the “boxes” used to build many comics. We encourage play and experimentation, and want to encourage artists to break through the grid.

The GRID has a long history within the narrative image. It insinuates the passage of time and creates a world within which scenes and characters can unfold. For years, the grid provided a stage for the comic strip. But for some, the grid proved too small. Like explorers at the foot of the New Age, artists began to break out of the framework. They traveled the vast oceans of the page layout, and the graphic novel began to tear itself away from the comic.

With GRIDPulp Deluxe offers starting illustrators and comic book creators the opportunity to use the magazine as a means of sharing their story and showcasing that story to the general public. Do you prefer to break with tradition or use the grid as a playing field to build your story? It’s up to you to lay out your white sheet and take us on a shock ride.

PARTICIPATION CRITERIA

  1. Your image is a graphic story or comic strip: you are telling a story. This can be poetic or an abstract narrative, but there must be a clear progression. That you are telling a story is evidenced by the composition and/or addition of text. Both stories traditionally constructed with a grid and stories without a grid are welcome.
  2. Your story consists of one page. It can also be described by the term ” one pager.
  3. Your image can stand on its own and needs no additional explanation.
  4. The work submitted is two-dimensional and can be printed on paper.
  5. Your image is 300 dpi and has the dimensions of an A2. You submit it print-ready, with a bleed of 3mm. The selected one-pagers will be printed at A2 size. This does not mean that your drawing must be drawn at A2, but will be blown up to this size if you have drawn it smaller. Make sure you have a good resolution.
  6. Individuals of all ages may enter.
  7. You are resident in Belgium or the Netherlands.
  8. Your work is in Dutch or English, or no language skills are required to follow the story.
