019 Open Studios Open Call

This July and August, 019’s exhibition space is yours to experiment in. The 10×10m wide, 7m high space in the former welding-factory atelier in Ghent’s Old Docks, right on the canal, allows to experiment with scale and is ideal when in need for a temporary bigger production space. The building is set in a rapidly growing neighbourhood and located beside the new Verapaz bridge opening this summer. The site offers direct canal access and a fresh, pedestrian-friendly streetscape.

Full access, no strings attached. No rent, no expectations. Just time, space, and a small budget you can use to cover expenses for public moments. This could be whether to open the bar, host presentations, or simply keep the doors open for the public now and then.
In need of a temporary, bigger artist studio? Want a space with your collective to experiment in or make an exhibition? Always had the idea for an experimental movie and need a space to film & present your first montage? Want to write a book and have the desire to make it into a collective happening? We are open to a lot of things, extra keen on activities that program the space and neighbourhood in new ways.

We offer: full access to the project space, a basic set of tools and recuperated materials from our stock, and a small budget to cover expenses for public moments (give an outline of what you need in your proposal). What we expect: commit to the house rules, the open project space is yours but be mindful you share the building with other residents (the 019 collective, other artists, bands in the rehearsal space, DJ’s in the radio studio…).
