RESHAPE: publication and toolkit for a sustainable, European arts sectpr

Tool

From 2018 to 2021, Flanders Arts Institute participated in RESHAPE, a large-scale, EU-funded collaborative project (2018–2021). Nineteen partners joined forces to develop a blueprint for a sustainable European arts ecosystem that is in tune with contemporary society.

During a final conference in Zagreb and Ljubljana, all the results of the project were presented and tested: the nine prototypes – developed jointly by 40 artists and arts practitioners from across Europe and the Southern Mediterranean – tackle the key challenges facing the arts sector and help facilitate the transition to fair and sustainable practices. The prototypes take various forms: a game, a collection of rituals, a metaphor, a call to action and much more. Discover them, use them, adapt them and share them!

20 policymakers from Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Switzerland, the UK and the Netherlands took part in the conference, tested the prototypes and gathered around the key RESHAPE themes:

Twenty policymakers from Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Switzerland, the UK and the Netherlands took part in the conference, tested the prototypes and focused on the key RESHAPE themes:

Art and citizenship
Fair governance models
The value of art in the social fabric
Solidarity economies
Transnational/post-national artistic practices

During the conference, the publication RESHAPE: A workbook to reimagine the art world was launched. This publication was produced by Flanders Arts Institute in collaboration with ONDA (Paris) and Pogon (Zagreb). This book presents all the RESHAPE prototypes, alongside a number of existing, reworked and commissioned works, selected by the RESHAPE community.
