Ivre de Mots: spotlight on Dutch-language theatre in France

Literatuur Vlaanderen, Performing Arts Fund and Flanders Arts Institute have joined forces to raise the profile of Dutch-language theatre texts in France. With the support of the Flemish Government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in collaboration with Maison Antoine Vitez in France, this has resulted in a publication of 34 French translations of contemporary theatre texts from the Netherlands and Flanders.
These new translations were brought to the attention of the French theatre world through lectures, meetings and other collaborations with festivals and companies. We organised meetings and lectures in Avignon (Le Totem), Grenoble (Festival Regards Croisés), Hasselt (Krokusfestival) and Pont-à-Mousson (Mousson d’été).
Ivre de Mots
The Ivre de Mots campaign took centre stage at the French theatre festival Mousson d’été last August. The programme included two readings of new translations and a panel discussion on Flemish and Dutch theatre texts. A practical guide was also launched for Dutch and Flemish creators who want to bring their work to the French stage.

All translations from the project can be found in the publication (along with two introductory essays on the theatre text landscape in Flanders and the Netherlands). The work is distributed in France and offers professionals the opportunity to consult the existing translations.
