Wanted: Mentors who would like to support emerging artists

Call
Flanders Arts Institute, The Gap, NICC

It can be particularly difficult for emerging artists to find their way in the professional field. Through Pairing is Caring, we pair an emerging artist with a more experienced artist or cultural professional (a ‘mentor’), so that knowledge about building an artistic career can be shared.

This call for applications is aimed exclusively at mentors. At the end of June 2026, we will be launching a call for emerging artists; please keep an eye on our channels for further details.

What

As a support officer, you’ll help with individual enquiries: new contacts, grants, remuneration, space, the next steps in their career path, and so on…

We focus on the performing arts, performance art, the visual arts, digital arts and multimedia.

Commitment

  • At least four meetings (at least once per term) with the emerging artist you are mentoring.
  • Attendance at the webinar and matchmaking (see below).

Selection

The number of mentors we will need will depend on the number of applications of the emerging artists. Therefore, mentors are selected by colleagues from NICC, Flanders Arts Institute and The Gap.

  • On 14 September, we are organising a short online webinar (1 hour) for selected mentors to explain the project and all of its details (renumeration, etc…)
  • On 14 October, we will be matching mentors with artists at La Vallée in Brussels.
