Open Call: Temporary centre for shared practice
Are you a Ghent-based visual artist under 30, looking for a temporary workspace, a place for try-outs, and a collective working atmosphere? From September until the end of December 2026, Kunsthal Gent will transform into a shared workspace.
We invite young artists to research, experiment, get to know one another, and collaborate. We are opening up space — both literally and figuratively — for you to work from the perspective of your own practice and needs. There is no predetermined final result. Instead, we offer a shared structure, time, company, and support.
Kunsthal Gent as a temporary workspace
Starting in September, you will gain access to Kunsthal Gent as a shared, semi-public workspace and a venue for try-outs: a shared workplace from Tuesday to Friday (9:00 AM to 5:30 PM).
You can use the space to work on your laptop, draw, read, write, edit, rehearse, research, hold meetings, and more. What is not possible: polluting productions such as welding, plasterwork, spray-painting, etc.
On weekends, Kunsthal Gent is open to the public. This is the time when public try-outs can take place in the various pavilions of Kunsthal Gent. We are also looking for a smaller group of artists who want to be actively involved in making this public programme happen.
Why this open call?
Kunsthal Gent wants to contribute to a supportive art scene based on solidarity, where we assist one another and collaborate. With this workshop, we want to create space for exactly that.
At the same time, this is an experiment for us too. In addition to the public presentation moments on weekends, we are also a workplace ourselves during weekdays. A lot happens during those days as well: from residencies and preparations to talks and new projects, which aren’t always visible during the weekend.
With this temporary workshop, we will explore together how working and showing can coexist — and what the Kunsthal Gent of tomorrow might look like.
For who?
We are looking for young artists in need of a temporary workspace, connection, and support. You are welcome to apply if you meet these four conditions:
- You are 30 years old or younger.
- You hold a degree in higher arts education (visual arts). Anyone graduating by September 2026 is welcome to apply.
- You have a connection to Ghent: you live in Ghent, have a studio or a gallerist here, or recently graduated from a Ghent art academy.
- You recognize the value of a supportive art field and the power of collaboration.

This initiative was developed by the Artists’ Fund of Kunsthal Gent, in collaboration with Patty Delanghe — with whom we founded the Louise Delanghe Fund for young artists — and Robert Monchen of Pizza Gallery. It stems from the simple, shared conviction that young artists deserve a place to come together and experiment.
