Female creator of musical theater? Meet international programmers at All Arias

Call
Kunstenpunt, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, DE SINGEL, Muziektheater Transparant, Concertgebouw Brugge, LOD

From April 21 to May 6, 2023, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, DE SINGEL, Muziektheater Transparant, Concertgebouw Brugge, and LOD present the first edition of All Arias, the new biennial for music theater in Antwerp, Ghent, and Bruges. Since femininity is an overarching theme of many of the productions, the partners want to mean something to female* makers of music theater.

As part of this, All Arias and Kunstenpunt are organizing a meeting moment on April 27 between young female* creators of music theater and international programmers and producers of music theater. The organizers of All Arias will nominate a few creators from their own operations and in addition, we will make two places available through this open call.

For whom?

New, emerging, and experienced female* composers, performers, screenwriters, and other makers of musical theater who would like to internationalize and expand their workings.

With female* we mean everyone who identifies as female or as non-binary.

What does it entail?

We match you with some programmers to discuss your productions, projects, and artistic practice in detail, in order to foster connection, exchange, and collaboration.

What to do?

Send an email to ward@kunsten.be with the subject line Submission Open Call All Arias. In the email we expect:

  • a short bio and/or artistic CV
  • a brief explanation of the project(s) you are currently working on
  • visual material from the current or a previous project. This may be musical theater or a related discipline.

Submissions can be made through April 10.

What do we take into account?

In the selection, we try to highlight especially parts of the sector that are not yet in the partners’ selection. We also focus on makers who are ready to take a step towards internationalization. Experience in music theater is not required, but experience as a maker in a related discipline (e.g. Classical music, theater,…) is required.

Who will judge the open call?

Two people from Kunstenpunt and an external creator or curator.

When will you hear from us?

April 12 you will hear if you are included in the program.
