Five artists to create artwork for the Dieric Bouts Festival

Call
Curating the Young

This fall, Curating The Young will support the city of Leuven during the New Horizons | Dieric Bouts Festival. Out & aBouts is part of Fringe, an unconventional programme within the festival featuring exciting work by new creators and artists. And you can be a part of it!

For our addition to the Dieric Bouts Festival, Curating The Young will collaborate with the ErfgoedApp to curate a short walk around the Vaart area with 5 artistic stops. For this we are looking for 5 artists who want to work on one of the five characteristics of Bouts, these are: perspective, landscapes, everyday elements, emotionlessness and exoticism. Through the use of the Erfgoedapp, the artwork will have the chance to come to life, or a digital addition can be made for it.

Despite the fact that Bouts only excelled in painting, all art forms are welcome. Note that these will most likely be digitized or have a digital addition, and are preferably weatherproof. Although there is a possibility to work with windows or displays in the Vaartkom area.

Now, what does it mean concretely?

Curating the Young is looking for five artists to create artwork in October for our route for the Dieric Bouts Festival, starting November 16. How long the works will be there is still uncertain, but they must be weatherproof to survive the winter months.

Ideally, each artist will focus on one of the characteristics found in Bouts’ paintings: perspective, landscapes, everyday elements, emotionlessness and exoticism. A clarification for these characteristics can be found in this presentation.

There will be 5 works scattered around the Vaartkom. The public can use the ErfgoedApp to follow the trail and discover the works. This app allows numerous possibilities: a sound fragment to accompany the work, an addition, a moving aspect… The Erfgoedapp also offers the chance to add 3D scans of your artwork or play with augmented reality. So, as an artist, you have to agree that a digital copy will be made of your work of art, so it can come to life.

Are you already getting ideas to use the ErfgoedApp for your artwork? Nice! Then be sure to include it in your proposal. More information about the ErfgoedApp you can find here. No inspiration yet? No problem, we’ll work something out together.

Who are you?

  • A young artist between 21 and 30 years old
  • You are looking for a unique stage to showcase your talent
  • All forms of art disciplines are welcome (but keep in mind that it must be possible to digitize the artwork)
  • You can deliver a work of art that is weatherproof and responds to one of Bouts’ characteristics

What do we have to offer?

  • The unique opportunity to work out an out-of-the-box art project on a location. Let your imagination run wild, we are open to all ideas.
  • Your work will be on display until at least December 9, with the possibility of extension
  • You will work with a creative team of young curators with a passion for art and, above all, a lot of enthusiasm. We support you during the whole process: project management, promotion, scenography…
  • Compensation of 300 euros, with an additional production budget of 100 euros. Be sure to include your expenses in your proposal.

Interested?

Got a crazy idea? Or have you been running an idea in your head for some time and now see the opportunity to work it out? Send us a video or write down your proposal. Apply by emailing paulien@bamm.be until October 1st with the following information:

  • Date of birth
  • Portfolio, photos, videos or a link to your insta profile. This way we can see what kind of art you make.

Five projects will be selected. We will notify you of this decision by October 6th.

After the selection, you will have until October 19th to further develop the content of your concept proposal.
