Art audiences can be found everywhere: in a theatre, at a festival, in a museum, but just as easily in public spaces, streaming from the living room or as participants on stage.
Kroniek Publiek began as an exploration of the relationship between art and its audience (‘publiek’). Up until the summer of 2023, we listened to artists, audience development practitioners, mediators, venues… How do they view audiences today?
We gathered these insights so that we could delve deeper into certain developments, engage in dialogue with the public themselves, and explore how this perspective challenges us to reflect on what art is and can be.
At the end of 2023, Flanders Arts Institute commissioned a survey into the perceptions and expectations of Flemish people regarding art and culture. In 2025, we published a tool in collaboration with Letterlik offering guidance for cultural practitioners who wish to work on, with and for a diverse audience.
The tools and reading material on this page are all in Dutch. For more information, contact our colleague Jannis.
