Showcase your work to the European early music sector
From 24 to 27 November, REMA, the European network for early music, will be gathering in Bruges for its triennial Early Music Summit.
As Flanders Arts Institute is keen to make the most of every opportunity, we will be giving four Flemish ensembles the chance to showcase themselves to the European early music sector during this event.
What is REMA?
REMA (Réseau Européen de Musique Ancienne) is the European network for early music. REMA brings together professionals from across the early music sector: ensembles, festivals, concert halls, research institutes, conservatoires, record labels, instrument makers and local networks. The network has over 210 members from 29 European countries and presents itself as a unique space for exchange, collaboration and joint projects.
In addition to regular local networking events and meetings, REMA organises a major gathering for the entire European early music sector every three years: the Early Music Summit. During this event, members and interested stakeholders from the early music field come together to discuss the sector’s artistic, social and structural challenges. Space is provided for discussions and workshops focused on sustainability and the future of early music. In 2026, the theme will be ‘What we stand for’.
Open call
This call is seeking four early music ensembles. During REMA, the selected artists will have the opportunity to give a short 25-minute concert in the Chamber Music Hall at Concertgebouw Brugge.
Flanders Arts Institute hopes that this will create international visibility and networking opportunities for the selected artists.
In addition to the concert, we are offering
- a fee of 250 euros and an expense allowance;
- advice and support before, during and after the Early Music Summit;
- access to the Early Music Summit.
For who
This call is aimed at early music soloists and ensembles who are ready to further internationalise their activities. We are specifically targeting ensembles based in Flanders or Brussels that have not yet received structural funding, but which already have an active programme of productions and concerts.
Criteria
The soloist or the ensemble
- plays early music;
- is active in Flanders and Brussels;
- is available on 25 or 26 November 2026;
- is not systematically supported under the Arts Decree.
Apply now
Send an email to ward@kunsten.be with the subject “Application Showcase REMA 2026” and include the following:
- a recent live video;
- a bio;
- a list of the musicians;
- a written proposal for the 25-minute concert;
- a reason why this showcase would be a valuable step in your journey as an artist;
- A technical rider for the concert; if the showcase proposal involves any special technical requirements (e.g. electronics or video), the feasibility of these will be assessed in consultation with the artist and the organisers.
Deadline
The deadline of this call is 15 June 2026, before midnight (Brussels time).
Results
The ensembles will be selected by three Flemish early music curators who have a thorough knowledge of the field and the REMA network. Together, they will assess whether a showcase at the Early Music Summit would contribute to the soloist’s or ensemble’s career development. In doing so, they will take into account
- the artistic and technical quality;
- the artistic identity;
- the experience;
- the international potential of the ensemble.
The jury consists of
- Veerle Declerck (Concertgebouw Brugge);
- Jan Van den Borre (Klara Festival);
- Anna Danilevskaia (MA Festival Brugge).
The selection will be communicated to the participants before the end of July and announced to the public in the following months as part of the conference programme.
