Hyster-x is looking for engaged board members
Hyster-x is a literary and cultural collective of feminist, female, and non-binary makers. For the past four years, we’ve been offering a platform to established womxn and spoken word artists of marginalized genders (MaGes), publishing critical texts, and celebrating the power of literary and artistic expression. We’re now taking the next step: officially becoming a non-profit organization (vzw). To support this transition, we’re looking for engaged voices to help us shape a more just and equitable literary landscape.
What does Hyster-x do?
● We offer a stage to female and non-binary makers based in Belgium.
● We showcase international MaGes makkers who inspire us.
● We publish short stories, essays, poetry, critical texts, and columns.
● We rediscover overlooked or underappreciated femme makers.
● We organize events and collaborate on opinion pieces and literary projects.
● We work towards a more inclusive, egalitarian, and diverse cultural field.

What do we expect from board members?
We see the board as a critical sounding board and allyship:
● You help shape the long-term vision, content direction, and member structure.
● You advise on events, funding applications, or strategic decisions.
● You actively support and share our mission within your network or in public spaces.
● You participate in 3 (online) meetings per year.
● You commit to a 3-year term.
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for people who:
● resonate with our mission and values;
● have experience with or affinity for the cultural, literary, or feminist sector;
● have a heart for word art and social justice;
● can think critically and want to build constructively together;
● want to contribute to conversations about inclusion, representation, and collective creation;
● We are looking for at least one board member with financial insight, to help oversee bookkeeping, funding processes, and the sustainable development of our organization.
Previous experience on a board is welcome, but not required.
We aim to assemble a board that is diverse in background, experience, perspective, and expertise.
