Arteventura: artists in residence in Spain

Call
Arteventura

Arteventura is an ecological artist’s residency on a wooded estate of 25 hectares, deep in the Spanish inland. A philosophy of autonomy and back to basics form the foundation of the project. The whole finca, with its hills, the holm- and cork oaks, is at the disposal of the artists.

Mission

Arteventura offers silence, space and time to engage in research and development, or create new and adventurous work. Artists stay in all freedom and don’t have to submit a project, nor have they to yield any results.

Arteventura aims to be a place where international artists and the communities of the region come together. In the entire region, tradition still has an important place in daily life. Yet this goes hand in hand with an open mind and curiosity about what exists outside this region. An ideal cross-pollination!

For whom

Anyone who is professionally involved with art is welcome to apply. Not only visual artists, but also curators, writers, composers, designers, architects,…

Functioning

Artists stay in all freedom at arteventura. They don’t have to submit a project, nor have they to yield any results. The artists that come to work on arteventura, are selected on the basis of references and a portfolio. Depending on the period of the year, artists have the choice of staying for minimum a month or minimum 15 days, maximum 3 months.

Living and working at arteventura

Each resident has its own selfcatering apartment, set up as a flexible workplace. Artists can also apply as a duo, although they are not necessarily working on a joint project. They will then share the 2 bedroom apartment.

The communal studio of 300 m2 consist of an inside and outside working area. It is always possible to work in the open air, a workstation can be set up (depending on season). We aim at having a maximum of 4 artists in residence at any given moment in time (except groups).

Living and working at the Finca also means ‘living off the grid’ and being aware of the use of energy. Solar panels and batteries provide power. Water comes from a well on the finca.
